Where to Hike Part 1

Believe it or not, hiking in Houston does exist! There are dirt trails with twists, turns, and even some hills waiting to be explored. Despite the city’s reputation for dining and entertainment, Houston has its hidden hiking gems.

Hidden Gem #1 – Memorial Park Trails

Sure, Memorial Park’s famous 3-mile loops, the recent additions of the everglades and tunnels, are great attractions, but there’s a hidden gem behind all of that – the hidden woodland trails. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you’ll be thrilled to know that you can hike or mountain bike your way through this natural haven.

I don’t know the exact mileage back there since they made changes for the funnels, but there is at least 8 miles and the level of difficulty ranges.  It’s far enough away from the street that you hear cars.  Occasionally, you get the train going by but that adds its own excitement.

The Purple Trail – Your Path to Adventure

The Purple Trail serves as an inviting introduction to the world of wooded trails. It’s the easiest among the trails, featuring a flat terrain that elegantly forms a loop. This welcoming trail is perfect for those looking to dip their toes into the wooded experience. But that’s not all – it’s also the gateway to connecting with the other trails, making it the first stepping stone toward a grand outdoor adventure.

The Yellow Trail:

The next trail I recommend is the yellow trail. This trail is like a fascinating two-part story. The first section effortlessly carves its way through the circle, leading you to the upper segment of the Purple Trail. The second part is conveniently situated nearby, offering a novel path with fresh perspectives. With fewer intersections to navigate, you’ll find it a breeze to explore this trail and relish its delightful secrets.

Bonus Location: An even easier park to get started with is the Houston Arboretum.  It’s all flat, well maintained and has a great ecosystem so the bugs tend to be a bit more under control.

There are other trails out there but these are 2 great ways to get you started
