Let’s check out a new part of town or meet others closer to where you live! This month, we’re hiking in Sugar Land for the full moon hike!
We’re hiking on real, dirt trails so wear sturdy shoes. We’ll hike about 3-4 miles. We’ll hike about 25-minute miles since it’s dark. We’re a leave no one behind the group so don’t worry about getting lost on the trails. We make sure everyone keeps up. This means, that within the first 10 minutes of the hike we stop and access to see if anyone needs to turn around.
What to bring:
- Headlamp or light source. Red lights are better to keep your night vision and not scare the animals.
- Bug Spray
- Wear long pants
- Wear sturdy shoes that are okay to get too muddy. We are hiking real dirt trails with hills!
After the hike, let’s have a picnic:
Bring something to eat for yourself; not a potluck.
Dogs-Friendly for friendly dogs
Your dog must be on a leash, and you must bring water and poop bags for your dog.
Adults only. No kids
What happens if it is raining out
We do not cancel before the day of the event and then we only cancel if it’s dangerous.
If it is raining a little, we will still go but we will alter the route. Hiking on wet trails causes erosion and is expensive to fix. Trails are closed after heavy rains. We will follow the rules for open/closed trails.
About the Moon:
“It’s thought that January’s full Moon came to be known as the Wolf Moon because wolves were more likely to be heard howling at this time. It was traditionally believed that wolves howled due to hunger during winter, but we know today that wolves howl for different reasons. Howling and other wolf vocalizations are generally used to define territory, locate pack members, reinforce social bonds, and coordinate hunting.” from https://www.almanac.com/content/full-moon-january
