A Walk in the Woods

The faster people will loop back to meet up with the rest of the group, and we’ll regroup at intersections so everyone knows where to go. We’ll take short water breaks throughout the hike.

There is a $3 entrance fee per person (your state park pass does not work at this park, but you can get an annual pass for $25). The entrance fee is paid at the park when you arrive.

NOTE:  Please allow 10 minutes extra to get through the front gate & drive to the parking lot since it’s at the back of the park.

How to find the group:

There are 3 parking lots near the Nature Center. We filled all 3 last time, so arrive early. Look for the Bayou City Outdoors sign at the entrance of the parking lot, and that’s where we’re meeting up. We’ll start the hike from there.

Parking:

There is plenty of parking near the start location. The parking lot is at the back of the park, so please allow extra time to drive there and arrive on time for the hike.

Start Time:

Arrive by 9:45 a.m. for a 10 a.m. sharp start time. Allow 10 minutes to get to the meetup location from the park entrance.

About the Park:

“Lake Houston Wilderness Park encompasses 4,786.6 acres of wooded parkland, approximately 30 minutes north of downtown Houston off of Highway 59 near the town of New Caney. It is the only park in the H.P.A.R.D. system where overnight camping is available. A vehicle bridge over Peach Creek has opened the entire park to access by automobile. The park is a wilderness park and is heavily forested, so visitors need to be aware that wildlife in the park includes several species of snakes. Please remember that conditions on natural waterways change without warning, so keep safety in mind as you paddle the creeks.” by Lake Houston Wilderness Park.
