Houston Farmers Markets

There are dozens of artisan and farmers markets in Houston and the surrounding area where you can find everything from fresh fruits and veggies to handmade soaps and art. Those former “paved paradises” turned into parking lots now play host to local veggies and honey, Gulf shrimp and vegan treats, breakfast tacos and gluten-free naan. It’s a reassertion of the natural world on these macadam urban and suburban zones.

In the fall and spring, Bayou City Outdoors leads bike tours of three to five markets on an eight to 12-mile ride.  Eat fresh and shop local! Support our local farmers and artisans by visiting any (or all!) of our favorite Houston farmers market locations below:

CSA

Eat ultra-fresh food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits.

Want to have fresh, local produce available in your kitchen every week? Get to know the CSAs available in the greater Houston area.

For over 25 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer, basically a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season. Shares typically delivered on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to a set location. Often, farmers will also provide the option to purchase eggs, cheese, meat and prepared meals.

Several CSA options are available in Houston and the surrounding areas. Each varies in terms of price, commitment level and pick-up locations but all dedicated to providing the community with sustainably grown seasonal goods.

By buying organic produce from your local farmer, you are working to maintain a healthy environment, a vibrant community, and a strong and sustainable local economy for you and your kids to thrive in.
