Hiking Brazos Bend

Public – Close to the city but away from the marathon traffic, let’s head south to Brazos Bend State Park. The park has so many different looks and winter is great because it’s more than just bare trees. So many birds for viewing and maybe we’ll see an alligator. They aren’t as active in the winter. So if the alligators have been keeping you away, this is a perfect time to check out the park!

Close to the city but away from the marathon traffic, let’s head south to Brazos Bend State Park.  The park has so many different looks and winter is great because it’s more than just bare trees.  So many birds for viewing and maybe we’ll see an alligator.  They aren’t as active in the winter.  So if the alligators have been keeping you away, this is a perfect time to check out the park!

About the hike:

Well-maintained, flat, dirt trails. We’ll hike about 5 miles give or take.

Level of Difficulty:

Easy.  You should be able to walk about 25-30 minute miles.  We’ll hike the pace of the group and split it into 2 groups if needed. We don’t leave anyone behind so you don’t have to worry about getting lost!  At the beginning of the hike, we’ll do a quick assessment to make sure everyone is good.

Dog Friendly for Friendly Dogs – you must have water and poop bags for your dog.  All dogs must stay on a short leash.  Please do not let your dog approach other people and especially do not approach other dogs.

No kids, please.  Members may bring their kids to member events, but we’re primarily an adult outdoor social club.

What to bring:

– Sturdy shoes

– Layers – you’ll warm up as you hike

– Water for you and your dog if you bring one

– A snack or lunch – after the hike, we’ll find a spot to eat

– A chair to sit in after the hike

– Comfortable shoes to change into after the hike

Where to Meet:

Meet in the parking lot at Elm Lake, just past the Nature Center.  Please add at least 10 minutes to your commute time to arrive on time. The parking lot is in the back of the park and you have to get check-in.

Fees:

$7 per person park entrance fee. Unless you have a State Park Pass and then the whole car gets in for free.  -The hike is free.  Be sure to get your day pass online before the event to ensure you can get into the park.  If they sell out, you won’t be able to get in.  RSVP here.
