Houston Cecilia is thrilled to present Leonard Bernstein’s powerful “Chichester Psalms,” a work that resonates deeply even today as a plea for peace and unity. More than just a musical piece, it’s a direct response to a world embroiled in conflict, offering a message of hope and reconciliation. Composed by one of the most iconic figures in American music, “Chichester Psalms” is a masterpiece that continues to inspire and uplift audiences with its timeless themes and soaring melodies. By performing this seminal work, Houston Cecilia aims to promote a sense of community and understanding, reminding listeners of the transformative power of music to bring people together.
This performance of “Chichester Psalms” will feature a beautifully reduced orchestration, including harp, organ, and percussion, allowing the nuances of Bernstein’s composition to truly shine. Also showcased will be the exceptional skill of Houston organist, Bryan Anderson, whose playing promises to be a highlight of the performance. With his mastery of the instrument, Anderson will bring a level of sophistication and elegance to the production, perfectly complementing the soaring vocals and poignant instrumentation. As the musicians take to the stage, they will transport the audience to a world of beauty and contemplation, where the universal language of music can bridge divides and inspire a sense of peace and unity.
Dante Petrozzi is a current 8th grader at St. Cecilia Catholic School and will be attending Strake Jesuit Preparatory College in the fall. He has had the opportunity to sing with Houston Grand Opera in 5 productions including, Turandot, Werther(the role of Hans), Tosca, The Sound of Music (the role of Kurt cover), and most recently La Boheme. He will be working with Santa Fe Opera this summer in their production of The Turn of the Screw as Miles cover. He sings with the St. Cecilia Youth Choir and is a student of voice teacher, Monica Isomura.
